The window period is he time it takes for the body to produce antibodies after someone has been infected wih the virus. In many cases this period can take btween 2 to 12 weeks, but there has also been cases where it can take up to 6 months. During this period you may be infected with HIV but your result can still be negative. It may take 3 months after exposure for the test results to be 97% accurate, and 6 months to be absolutely certain. If you feel you have been exposed to HIV, and your test results are negative, be sure to get retested in 3 to 6 months to be sure.

No you cannot become infected with HIV from a toilet seat. HIV is not airborne, meaning it doesn’t live long outside the body. HIV only  found in the blood, semen, or vaginal fluid of an infected person and you can only get it by having sex (anal, vaginal, or oral) with someone who is infected, sharing needles and syringes with someone who has HIV and  before or during birth, or through breast feeding.

Approximately 40,000 new HIV infections occur each year in the United States. One fourth of individuals living with HIV are unaware that they have the virus.

Media can help spread awareness about HIV Prevention by offering a fresh and innovative educational tools to reach a younger audience. Even though films based on HIV prevention and awareness carry a strong message, if its audience cannot relate to any information or anyone giving the information, the message may be lost. I remember when my health teacher tried to give information to my classmates and I, she looked really uncomfortable.
