Two teens, in the United States, are infected with HIV every hour.

It can take a decade or more for HIV to develop into AIDS.

The New York Times publishes its’ first news story on AIDS on July 3, 1981. 

The odds of an HIV positive mother passing the HIV virus to her child, with anti-retroviral treatment, is 2% or less.

In the United States, women account for 25% of all new HIV/AIDS diagnoses.

According to research published in Nature, in 2008, genetic analysis pushes the estimate origin of HIV back to between 1884 and 1924. AIDS wasn’t recognized formally until 1981 when it got the attention of public health officials in the United States. That traces HIV virus back 100 years.

Mosquitos do not transmit HIV. Worldwide, there has never been a documented case of HIV infected from a mosquito bite. The HIV virus cannot survive in insects and bug bites do not inject blood into your body.

HIV does not show symptoms for a long time; people who have HIV do not always get sick quickly.

Unprotected anal sex is the highest risk sexual activity, both partners are at risk for exposure to sexually transmitted diseases.
