Personally, I feel most comfortable talking about sex with my friends. They understand me and aren’t judgmental. My friends are also the ones who know me best, so they are the ones who can give me the best advice. They are like my personal psychiatrists. They are also extremely reliable and trustworthy, so I know what ever I say to them is completely confidential.
This goes both ways too. My friends come to me with their sex stories and concerns too. We are all just so comfortable with each other. We have also known each other for years, so we know how to get each other to open up; we know how to sooth each other if we are really freaking out and we know how to be the friend the other person needs. What’s best is that during and after the conversation we make small jokes about everything-nothing hurtful, just small remarks to lighten the mood, to make us laugh. The most important thing is that the day after, we’ll all just be hanging out and completely forget about it. Nothing will have ever changed.

I can definatly relate to this. There’s nothing better than talking about sex with people who can relate, our peers. Their our age, therefore they understand exactly what we deal with daily towards sex, and no one wants to listen to an adult preaching about there aged opinions. Although their appriciated, i’d rather listen to somemore my age.
I feel most comfortable because I won’t be ridiculed, or reprimanded for whatever I say. My peers will understand me better, and won’t be angry with me like my parents would be.
It’s weird with older people. Times have changed and most older people (i.e. parents/teachers) grew up during a different time period so things were different. A lot of times they act like they can relate and they really can’t. Sex sells, and it’s growing exponentially, that means every day its prominence grows. This leads to new pressures that people of older generations are unaware of while our peers are well aware. This is why it is more comfortable talking to them about sex.
I come from a pretty conservative family and they don’t speak a word about sex. So one reason i feel more comfortable talking to my peers about sex is because it is such a forbidden subject at home. My mom tells me all the time “No boyfriend until you are in college!” Also it is because peers can relate and are more willing to talk to me about it. We are all about the same age and probably going through about the same phases, with sex being one of these phases.
I feel most comfortable talking to my peers about sex because i feel they can most relate. when i was trained to be a peer educator, i was amongst a group of 25 other teens. So i feel that being amongst other teens discussing these issues helped me become more comfortable about this sensitive topic. I believe that teens feel more comfortable talking to other peers their age because they wont be judged by their friends and they wont be looked at or treated different because of their actions or opinions.
Talking to your peers about sex is both comfortable and informative. When my parents were my age, sex was considered “taboo” I think the reason why alot of these new cases of infection occur, because people are not talking. Parents should understand though their kids dont want to hear their opinion sometimes, they do appreciate it. The more parents and kids talk about sex, the more they will learn about each other.
